A Raisin in the Sun
Raisin in the Sun, starring Phylicia Rashad, Sean Combs, Sanaa Lathan, Audra McDonald, and John Stamos, made it’s world Television Premiere last week on ABC.
Directed by Kenny Leon, and produced by Puffy, the premiere delivered great ratings along with some awesome performances.
I must say, I was truly impressed! Especially by Puffy, he held his own with some powerhouses. He had a couple of scenes where he faltered, but for the most part, he delivered way more than I expected.
Phylicia Rashad know she put her foot into the role of Lena Younger!! Good God. The scene with her and Beneatha (Sanaa Lathan), where she talks about God still being in her house, and when she asks Beneatha “Have you mourned for your brother?” all I can say is WOW! And Audra McDonald, we’re going to have to watch out for her. She was phenomenal!
Kenny Leon did a great job of staying true to the play and not modernizing it. Especially with the cast he had, he could have taken it way left. BUT I’M SOOO GLAD he didnt.
